All Around the World

Yesterday, my friend Adrian came into town last night. Sucks he was only here for one night. But I was happy he invited me to dinner. He suggested going to a Thai restaurant, Tamarind Seed, and I'm a virgin to Thai food so I gave it a try. Plus, I'm trying to broaden my food horizons because I definitely only eat chicken all the time. Anywho, the food was pretty good. The setting was nice. The waiter was kinda weird lol, but overall it was a nice experience.

Bruce Leeroy! Lmao. The Last Dragon was sooo funny. Woo! Had a good time watching it and got my lil' free drink. Ray was being a lowkey groupie and Kalyn was sleep and missed all the funny moments. The movie was shown at the Midtown Arts Cinema and will be showing different oldies every other Friday of the month. The next show will be Coming to America. Can't wait.

Stop In the Land of ATL

Last night, two friends & I went to Standard for the Hollyweerd listening party for their newest mixtape, Electricity Showroom. It was pretty cool...lowkey. We didn't stay very long, and neither did anyone else. But it was a pretty good turn out. Free beer (not like I drink it). Kalyn, AKA J Bon the Backpacker, did a little networking, while asking me & Adrian to hold his beer. Lol. He was getting tipsy. Anywho, we decided to go to the party for Vinnie's Style. But instead of getting in there, in oh let's say...10 minutes, we ended up getting there in like an hour! LOL. We got sooooo lost. Still had a fun time though. We pretty much drove everywhere in mid and downtown. The party was pretty mediocre. Me and Adrian's southern roots couldn't take all the Brooklyn music. B.O.B. performed though. He brought an alcoholic with him. Seriously, he told us he was. We didn't stay long. And I was sad no one offered me a drink. =(

Ra-Ra-Ra-Rock Pastelle with Gucci on

The slight anticipation for this event was slowly coming down from it's high as the night rolled over into the wee a.m. hours. I had my heart set on listening to a tribute of some sort to Ye' through to years and from 808s & Heartbreaks. How can it be an album release party with no plays from the album? There were a few but I guess Ye's new pop art vibe isn't cool enough for club-esque functions. Besides random high/drunk guys in my face for a brief moment, I enjoyed myself. It started off pretty slow, only playing songs from the A but it picked up, I suppose. Word of mouth is, this wasn't one of the best. Maybe it's becoming a little too mainstream. What do you think?

I don't think people fully understand what direction Ye is going with this album. I mean, give the man a break. SHEESH! Everyone knows basically all of his personal business. Let him vent to us. But who am I to speak on it. Check out his interview with Fader here.

The Real Award Tour

November 24, 2008 was one of the best moments of my life. I was already hype about this event days before. Usually my plans are never fully executed the way I would like them to be. But this was (maybe because I didn't plan it myself). The line to get in wasn't even long, but we did get there rather early. Once we got in, we had to wait for at least an hour. They were running on CP time. But it was cool, aside from some hippie chick dancing sleezy in the corner right next to me. Finally, they began to introduce Janelle Monae. Somehow, Adrian and I inched our way up to the front. Of course her performance was phenomenal. She is so hype and her passion for what she does inspires me to continue my dreams. She lowered herself off the stage and danced in the crowd. I happened to be one of the lucky individuals dancing alongside. Then came The Cool Kids. I guess I'm not cool because I didn't know any of the words. I'm not really up on them anymore. But, I can say they gave an awesome performance as well, especially for hip-hop artists. Their new songs are hot! You should check up on them (sorry, I do not know the names to the songs. If you do, HOLLA!). Everybody was vibing with them, and out of nowhere came some drunk girl dancing extremely close to me, pretending to know every word. What a mess. I saw her leave and I'm glad she didn't drive home. Praise! Finally, what we were ALL waiting for, The Renaissance himself. Words can't even describe the feeling of seeing such a pioneer in the industry that close to you. I'm not a star struck individual, but I felt elated. New tunes or classic hits, this guy can put on a show. His sweat was dripping on Adrian (lol). Believe it or not, for at least a good minute, he rapped while looking DEAD at me, no lie. HA HA. Overall, I enjoyed the experience. If you were there, you had that overwhelming feeling too.

Red Light Cafe

Last night Neutron the Connoseuir and I attended a hip-hop function at the Red Light Cafe. There were unsigned rap artists performing and giving us a tatse of their music. Basically, everyone sucked. If you were one of the people performing and you're reading this, please don't be affended. Just brush up on your skills. The first act was just...COUNTRY! I mean, i'm southern myself, but JEESSH! The dude started singing about how fine some girl was that she reminded him of a box of chicken. Then he performed 1,000 makeshift skits. The next performer was the wackest. He had a hypeman who wasn't hype and his lyrics went straight down the drain. UGH. The third performer we caught was a mutual friend of ours. I had my doubts about him at first, but he shut me and the other failing performers up with the first song. Of course he may have made a few tiny mistakes, but it was his first performance ever and her performed about 827498741 songs, remembering every single word (probably even freestyling a little). I applaud you, J'Bon the Backpacker.

Throw Yo' Hands in the Aye-Yer!

(That's air for all you non-ATLiens.) It's a HUGE music fest put together by Plush .357. It includes some of Atlanta's best Indie hip-hop and alternative music. Majority of the acts have a large local fan base. It also will showcase five of Atl's best DJ's. The purpose behind it is to support all local music and artists and make the world respect the movement. So if you're in the area on November 8th, don't hesistate to slide through. Looks like a pretty cool event. My brother from another mother, Yung Bishop, is a featured artist as well. And anyone who knows me knows I love Hollyweerd and Mach 5. You can search all performers via myspace to preview their songs. Artists on the come up are worth the weight.
